Imagine you fell through a time portal that took you 1,000 years into the future. As you look around, you observe that every single person is on a really comfy couch, with a feeling simulator in hand. This feeling simulator can create any feeling you could possibly imagine. If you want to experience Christmas morning as an eight year, you can experience Christmas morning as an eight year old. You can experience new love. You can experience love after fifty years of marriage. You can experience the satisfaction of a hard day’s labour. Whatever you want, you got it. The technology is perfect. There is no war, no poverty, and no disease. Robots take care of farming, and all other problems you can think of. People could choose to stop, but there isn’t really anything else to do. So everyone who stops using the feeling simulator always returns to it. After you have properly assessed this future, you fall back through the portal to our present day. On your way back, you figured out that if you step on a specific butterfly tomorrow morning, that future will be completely disrupted.
Now time for the question that is up for debate. Should you step on the butterfly and end this future, or do you allow this future? Your reasoning would also be appreciated.
