This summary goes something like: the history of philosophy is centered around three categories - metaphysics, epistemology, and axiology. The Greek and Christian philosophers placed metaphysics (abstract mystical structure, function, meaning, and purpose of the universe) as the foundation from which they grew their philosophies. During the enlightenment, skepticism and scientific ideas began to make a push for placing epistemology (evidence) at the foundation of our philosophies. Placing epistemology at the foundation was criticized as inspiring Nazi Germany and Communist atrocities because this approach led to nihilism in relation to human value. Postmodern philosophy has seen the danger of this move to epistemology and has decided to place axiology (axiomatic values) at the foundation of philosophy, to make sure that human value is always considered as a fundamental requirement upon which to build a philosophy.
