Bret discusses the Unity2020 movement with first ever libertarian congressman, Justin Amash.
Despite Bret Weinstein being a radical progressive and Justin being a conservative, they both agree that the current status of government is dysfunctional in that it promotes hate instead of cooperation towards solutions.
The current system is described as something like two parties that are in bed with two opposing teams of corporations in which each team deliver laws that their team of corporations have written and produced for the benefit of the corporations rather than debating, finding solutions that the people actually want, and writing their own laws for the benefit of their constituents. It has become somewhat of an unholy alliance, as both corporate owned parties want to keep it a two-party system so they can extend their way of life. It’s like Coke and Pepsi buying up all the advertisement time so you never realize that there are any other options.
Congressmen increasingly feel powerless as the system centralizes power and refuses to debate ideas. The only option is to fight over the ideas that the corporations have delivered to you. Even tweaking the law is not being allowed any more. Only yes or no votes. Making adjustments or amendments to the laws is no longer allowed. And if you vote against the party lines, you will be immediately ostracized. Its a toxic system that needs to be fixed.
